HAH!!! Substitute insane feathers for gross leopard print, and you STILL have something that should never see the light of day, let alone a spotlight.

Hey Laura, there's a "Great Santino" video up at Salon's Video Dog: A bunch of Santino's antics; oddly, no Timpressions. You might have to click through an ad but thought you'd want to know..:)

There is a difference though. The couple in the picture is an ice dance team, and the girl isn't required to do any jumps like a single skater (Sasha Cohen) would. It would be extremely difficult to do a triple lutz in either of those outfits. Also, ice dance is notorious for having really, really bad costumes.

Ha! That is so funny, because I totally thought of Santino when I saw them skate. I actually liked the costume and the blue leopard. Ice Dancing costumes are far more wild than the traditional skating. They expose a lot more skin, have fabric shreds dangling, etc. Some of the colors this year (especially the Italian team) were ugh! yucky. Funky salmon and weird flowers. So funny how style is to each their own.

For anyone interested, Tim Gunn is critiquing the figure skating outfits. Video is here: http://www.nbcolympics.com/bravoatthegames/index.html

The Italians looked like a bowl of spumoni...or perhaps Carmen Miranda, on acid.

kidlyd - That's EXACTLY what I've been saying about Santino. He's not afraid to stand behind his designs. He doesn't mumble acceptance when the judges critique him but rather tries to explain what he was going for. For that, I really admire him.

As for the ice dancing - DH and I were flipping back and forth with it last night - we kept calling out which designer could have done the costumes and most of them were totally Santino-ed!!!

I was actually thinking as I was watching the ice dancing that anyone of the PR designs was better than those on the ice. Even taking the fact that yes, the ice dancing outfits are "different"-they were pretty bad. Flourescent pink? And the yellow pair where the poor woman was sort of bronzy to begin with and the guy looked straight out of Karate Kid on Ice? Yipes. Give me tooty anytime, LOL...

P.S. There has been a special on Bravo called Sasha Cohen and Friends (I believe that's it, I haven't watched it too closely)-one skater (maybe even THE Shasha Cohen, to quote Nick) skates to a tune from Chicago wearing an outfit that eerily resembles Kara's.

Did anyone else watching the ice dancing notice the egregious use of FRINGE on the skirts? I counted: like 3 couples in a row had some form of fringe going on...
The women looked a little like something you'd see at a car wash...so swishy! But cheers to Kara for her flapper outfit! She was ahead of her time as well!
On another note: anyone want to comment on the pair that wore all white and the lady looked like she had pasties and tassels on?!?! Horr-EEE-blay.
