It's good that his site is up. However,it's too bad it's done in flash and it takes awhile to load. Come on Daniel, do your website "web 2.0" style, which means no flash. Use Ajax, Php, Mysql and then you're rocking because you can get a web developer to code for you in order so you can update on your own with news and other dan fantastics.
yeah i know. i thought my education institution T1 broadband came to a standstill! there isnt even that much *content* on the website except for more photos of his pieces (which are nice) and his bio. but man, that definitely does not require that much flash.
i suppose i will wait a minute for a website to load if it's daniel's... if even...
His clothes look so beautiful up close. I admire his collection even more now; it's so cohesive. Each piece is classic yet modern as well. And I really want that white cashmere coat!

I know it is in flash which isn't so user friendly, and it isn't the blog-type websites of other designers(which I kind of like), but I have to say this site is beautiful. I love the layout, and I love the way he shot his collection. Of all the PR designers' websites this is the best photographed collection with the multiple photos at multiple angles. The artistry of the photos is just amazing. The website as a whole is still a little raw, but has great hopes. The only thing I really don't like is the choice of blue for the fonts and everything. If using blue, in my opinion, it should be a darker, richer, more classic blue. I prefer black though. And as some have stated, it makes me enjoy his collection a little more because you can see the details, but then again, makes me worried even more about the 'patch' comment.
Wow his collection is very different when you highlight the details.. I wonder if all the comments from Tim Gunn are for drama. The details really show his point of view! especially the beige one... it didnt look at all like that on the getty images.
One photo on his site also highlights that the short camel dress had pockets. I remember in all of the Oscar fashion commentary people were saying that pockets in dresses is the new thing...looks like Dan was ahead of the curve. :)
The photos of the closing are beautiful and I agree that they show some interesting details of the clothing that just have not been apparent so far. However, I kind of wished there were a few more straightforward shots of the clothing -- if I hadn't already seen photos from the FW runway show, I would not have known what the clothes look like overall, since the models' contortions in the photos make the clothing bunch up. At one point, I wasn't sure whether I was looking at the front or the back of the dress for several minutes, and then finally saw that what I thought was a very bony rear end was actually a hip thrust out, shot from a slightly overhead angle.
After seeing the closeups of Dan's collection, I think he has a better shot at winning tonight than I previously stated. His designs show an amazing attention to detail. Then again, I suppose that if Santino or Chloe had professional photographs taken of their garments, we'd see their masterful execution, too. I think Dan's inspiration--a fusion of Japanese and military designs--translates well. Like another poster said, though, the badges worry me. I understand his thinking, but they're unattractive. I'm not a Dan fan, but I've revised my thinking a bit. It's a really nice collection.
also, i didn't realize at first, but upon looking a second time, on the opening flash where he has the model in his brown dress, the background that is somewhat ghosted, i guess, is a closeup of his pleated white skirt, which I really liked.
For the first poster, using Ajax for a site like this is just as much a waste of time as using Flash.
Ajax is a method to pass back information to the browser and update the page without a reload of the actual page. It is useful technology, but in this case, he isn't using anything more complicated than basic links. Ajax would be overkill.
The Flash is there to make the transitions smooth. Nice effect, though it does cost the user in terms of actually getting to the site quickly.
Flash is the appropriate technology, it was just badly executed from a file size standpoint.

Funny, the first time I visited, it took a while to load - now it's pretty much instant. Maybe it just needed to "warm up." :)
