Wow, Jay's gone through a lot. I know how much that type of back problem can disrupt a life. From a purely TV perspective, the hour was a little rushed and abrupt. The show did throw light on Jay's recent comments about people continually asking him about his line, and his annoyance with that.
I have to say, this show just reminded me how much I love Jay. I loved his dress that he designed for Heidi, and I really wish she'd worn it...and I can't wait to buy one of his sweaters...
Wow I really thought Heidi K. came off very badly. I was even surprised that, knowing she more than likely was a producer, would allow herself to be characterized the way she was. I also wondered if the phone call apology was edited in later to soften things up. I know it's a dog-eat-dog world, but to have one of her flunkies call Jay and blow him off seemed so cold and impersonal. This was not Heidi's shining moment, in my opinion. Also, I am confused. I thought that Project Jay was originally conceived as more than one show, and in fact, I thought it left off as if there were more to come. Is there more to come? And if not, I am wondering if the plug was pulled after the unpleasantness with Heidi K.She had to have cringed at the remark about the plastic furniture in her back yard. But I think she deserved it.
I'm still watching it, but I love it more than PR! We get to see actual clothing and fashion design -- not just sculpting with leaves & flowers. *muah* to Jay!
As a fellow poster said, while Heidi's behavior was a little not-so-cool, I find it very classy of her to produce a show that airs and makes her look that way.Considering how much Jay repeated he didnt want to do it though, I felt only mildly bad for him.U know whom I literally worship after that show though ? Kara Saun. Wow. How awesome of hers to help and all.
is there anyone that can make an icon of Jay spinning his flag during "Project Jay"? We all in the color guard world remember him back in those days and that all took us back a little! If you can, I'll look in my color guard archives for pics of him back in the day. He was always the star performer. I am sure you're all shocked!
I really enjoyed the show and it certainly left off in mid-air. I saw the Jay I really, really loved-here's a guy who is a mass of insecurity and how differently does he handle that from Santino? I think they certainly could do a few more episodes!! I thought if Heidi had called herself and discussed it with Jay, I would have felt differently. I liked his dress and thought she would look great in it. Kara Saun was wonderful, I thought and so gracious. I thought we'd hear more about Wendy and her divorce-I don't see how you jump to PR causing it, all she said was "Fame", right? Aye, aye aye, she is still strange!! Project Jay would be a great filler during the down time when PR is off...
Jay just puts himself completely out there, raw and unedited. All he needs is a pinch of confidence to take the next step.I'm glad Heidi finally talked to him, but yes, it was low to have someone else be her hatchet man. She owed him that call before the red carpet. And Kara Saun, Austin were great and supportive. Nice to see each of them looking out for each other.
I can't believe Heidi did that to Jay; after all he went through. Or maybe I can believe it afterall. The truth is he wasn't too much into the dress anyways; maybe because something deep inside of him was preparing him for what Heidi did.Jay is a great designer and I really wish him the best in both his professional and personal endeavors...Mei-Ling
I was looking forward to this show and Bravo replayed last weeks episode instead of Project Jay!
I loved loved loved this little show, and I want more. Jay is just about the realest, rawest, most himself person I've ever seen on tv and it's totally mesmerizing to me. That, and how hilarious would he be to hang out with? I loved how he dressed up his little niece, even as Anna Nicole! BWAH! And him talking to his little dog. So sweet! The Heidi thing was weird. It's just bizarre to me how people with a "team" to help them make their important life decisions, like what to freaking WEAR, get to the point where it seems normal to them. I can't imagine how narcissistic and self-involved that would make you. That said, I'm glad she did finally call, but it was a little too late in my opinion. All in all, YAY JAY!
This show had me laughing out loud the whole time. Jay seems like such a good guy, & I hope I can buy his clothes at Macy's one day! I agree with the previous posts that it seemed kind of rushed, though. I wish they could have made it at least 1 and 1/2 hours or 2. Oh well, maybe he'll get his own show when the producers realize how much people liked this one.
I loved Project Jay! I wonder if this was a pilot that they didn't pick up but decided to run as a special? I'd love to see him with a team making the line they discussed at the end. I liked the dress & hated how hurt Jay was by that whole thing with Heidi. But at the same time she'd just had a baby & if she did not like the dress I can understand her decision. Why not meet with him before asking him to make it though? Tell him you're going for a mother earth look? I'm sure he could have done it! (or maybe Austin with that floral print!)By the way I never found out who made Heidi's Golden Globe dress this year. Could she have gone back to Jay maybe?
Jay is amazing and I enjoy him as much as ever. Wish there was more and hope producers realize how much the public is eager for more Jay!
The thing that made me feel coldest about Heidi is when Jay asked if she was coming to his show, and she said "I'll definitely try." Ouch.
i really appreciated jay showing us that he isn't always a ball buster who tells it like it is...the fact that he allowed himself to breakdown on camera after the whole heidi dress fiasco, and i thought the jays dress would of been sooo much better than the dior dress she ended up wearing...and the way that was handled was typically hollywood...wait until the last minute and then have some flunkie tell you that they are not going with the dress...screw heidi...big ups to jay...i hope he sells his stuff like crazy....
Project Jay could be a really fun weekly show. Jay is so charming, creative and has real problems that people can relate to. THe chemistry between he and his girl friend from New york is better than most television shows. THe show is also very, very funny and quotable. oh and Hiedi- your awt!!
I wonder whether Heidi's mom and her handlers were behind her ditching Jay. I can just hear 'Oh you can't wear something that sexy after just having a baby.' Plus, when Heidi talked to Jay about what *she* wanted, she was high on pre-baby hormones, then dropped Jay when she was in the post-baby crash that must have totally changed her outlook. I think other people took her over in a weak, insecure moment. I think there was a lot of pressure on both Jay and Heidi - I think she called because she felt bad about handling it badly. I feel awful for Jay - quite a blow.
....Wasn't she on a "fashion don't" list with that floral number? I think it was MSN.
Jay rocks! Bravo or Project Runway dropped the ball when they shoved all his footage into 1 measly hour at 11pm eastern time. Screw them. It was great! Jay can make you cringe, laugh, cry and gasp in hour. How many people can do that anymore?
I definitely felt like we didn't learn much. He spent a year finding a studio and making one dress? Oh, and then having back surgery in the last five seconds? We really needed more than a hour and we deserved a lot more information. But parts of it were cute. I love his relationship with Austen and Kara; Austen is so sweet and I like Kara more after seeing her last night.
Everyone is getting down on Heidi for not wearing Jay's dress, but come on. She had a baby 6 days before and was on the red carpet and like she said, she had to do what was best for her. Your body doesn't bounce back that fast and I think it was a miracle she was out and about so soon afterwards. Plus, she was going on his 1st dress which didn't even fit. Although I can't blame her for not wearing the dress, I do think they could have told him sooner than mere hours before the show.
jay is awesome. i love that the fame vs. success issue is being brought up in his show and with chloe in PR2. i could watch him for hours he is a gentleman, intelligent, extreemly funny and chic. i abhor heidi klum and can't imagine why anyone would care what she thinks of any item of clothing as she has no personal style, charm or ability. she is an underwear model. i hope he can stay sane and have a wonderful life whatever happens and whatever he chooses.
What I found most interesting about Heidi's apology phone call to Jay was the end. She asked him about when he'd be showing his collection. He told her and said "you'll be there, right?" There was a moment of silence, then, "I'll try."
I really liked it. What a raw reality check. I've only seen PR2 from the "thin ice" episode and only seen Jay in the judging and party. I thought "He's last years winner. He must have his business going. He's in the big time now. 100K in his pocket." But nope. He said no to the 100k (keeps his licensing) He does have a business but must be going from scratch. The Heidi thing. Ouch. Here he'd flown to LA, he and his friends are feverishly helping him get that dress together. Then they get the axe phone call right in the middle of it. How much money do you suppose Jay is out because of that? Do people who commission designers have to pay for any of that? I'm guessing no. I want more Project Jay. I'd like to see a Project Santino or Daniel too.
Okay, I'm going to be the lone ranger here. Actually, I did enjoy the show. I wasn't that excited about it after seeing the way he acted on PR when he was on. He hadn't adopted that "I'm so important" attitude I guess at the time these things were filmed. And, I did feel sorry for him over the Heidi dress because he seemed to have worked really hard at it. BUT!!! I think he needs to follow Kara Saun's advise and give it a rest...although, it's too late now. Enough whining though and especially slamming Heidi. Sounded like the dress was a mess when she tried it on and it was only a couple of days until the Emmy's. She had to make sure she had a dress. Plus, I have no doubt that this same thing happens to more experienced designers all the time. Get over it and roll with the punches. And, I don't believe when people come on this show the producers agree to adopt them for life. He'd still be in Pennsylvania if not for this show. They don't owe him anything. Especially since he blew them off after winning. I don't know what the deal with BR was, but if it was truly just them giving him some phone numbers, then why not do it? I really don't think that's all there was to it, but in any case, he walked away from that part of the deal. Why do they continue to owe him? As I said, I enjoyed watching the show. But, I still question whether or not he will make it, long run. He needs a major attitude adjustment. Just my opinion, of course.
Someone tell Jay that if he needs cash he should sell some of his sketches on ebay!He does some of the best line work and watercolor washes I have ever scene. When will his stuff be in stores? This will be my first designer purchase.
The Lone Ranger sounds like it could be the designer who's last name rhymes with Bores....
Jay is the American Dream. How does one go from Lehman to NYC? How does one successfully make a dream a reality?Project Jay is great TV and should be continued. We don't really know what happened with BR.But the question of whether he will succeed for the long run is ridiculous. How many "long run" designers are there in the fashion world?Jay be true to yourself. And you know, Lehman is a great place to leave and a great place to return to.Carry on!
I didn't start watching PR until this season's lingerie episode and therefore had only a little understanding of who Jay and the others were. I mean...Jeez, when I first saw Austin at the party (evening gown episode) I thought "oh...that must be that Wendy woman that no one likes...you can imagine my surprise when I quickly realized it was a Guy and Austin to boot! I Really Need to get the season one dvd as I find those designers, and especially now after this special, Jay, as really interesting people.Anyone who will sit holding a dog, and talking to them like a real person, so naturally like that, is pretty damn okay in my book! I thought that was very charming! It's obvious that his dog, Willow, is a much better designer and makes more sense than, say...I dunno...Guadalupe, for instance!I like being able to see what designers actually go thru to bring their designs to life...I had no idea that profession is so stressful and tough physically, mentally, and emotionally. I could really relate to Jay's indecision, insecurities, and just trying to make good decisions in all areas, while being suddenly thrown into a world so unlike his own in PA. My heart goes out to him, especially while attempting this with terrible back pain.Jay's publicist, and Heidi really kind of shoved him into doing a design that he made very clear that he wasn't a gown designer. Guess no one was listening to him, huh? Heidi should have conferred with her "people" first before tellng him she wanted it Fire-Engine Red...even Jay didn't think that was a good idea...again no one was listening to him. I thought it was just so arrogant to put him through all the redesigning of the dress at the last minute and THEN have someone tell him..."er, no, I think I'll be an earth-mother instead"...WTF! Thank Goodness for good friends who helped him and good dogs...I thought his dress turned out just beautiful and looked great on his good-natured lady friend!I hope they make a whole series out of Project Jay. I'd love to see him overcome all this crap and succeed...and make a whole line of "Willow Wear"!
Come on Folks. This is TV! The whole Heidi scenario with the dress took up about half of the show. Maybe they did this to fill the time. Who knows what was edited out. And I don't blame her for taking the safer route. Jay took so long to come up with the dress. He seems life a procrastinator. How did he ever meet the deadlines on the show?
I still like Jay, but I'm lovin' me some Kara Saun. What a classy broad, I've almost forgiven her for those Dollhouse shoes.
He kept talking about the premiere of his new line at this year's fashion week, right? Does anyone know if this happened? Links? Sketches looked rad. I'd love to see it.
