I'm not surprised. Kara only used her model during Fashion Week while the others had extra PR girls. I wished she would have show them her personal style infused with the garment because she could've been saved. Chloe's dress was just so-so. Great color, bad seams. I thought Santino's gown could have been wonderful if it was toned down, it looked like a golden fish scales.
I'm surprised a little at Daniel's win just because it was a bit of a boring dress. I think that this just reiterates the fact that he is a really talented designer as far as construction goes. To have something simple with certain detailing made really well will always be in style.
I'd love to see him win this whole thing but can't lie about my love for Santino's FW collection.
I wish Kara had done a dress similar to her actual FW line...she could have pulled a win, or at least a spot in FW had she really let herself shine. I'm glad she got to show at FW though and wish amazing things for her future.
Now I gotta think about a snarky recap for my blog...lol
i knew that chloe, daniel and santino would get into the top three, but i was really hoping that since daniel and chloe's dresses were a bit boring that santino was a shoo-in, but you know? i'm looking foward to the fashion week episodes and seeing santino's gorgeous collection on the runway and thus, a win. (i did say that santino - regardles of his demeanor - was going to win since day one. i still believe it.)
i was so disappointed in kara this week. after seeing her decoy collection, i can't believe she didn't make one of those kimono dresses. i have no idea where that black dress came from. it only secured santino's postion in the top 3. his was ridiculous and nina was more than gracious in saying it would make a great cover. (well, maybe from the waist up.) however, i too thought santino was going to win this thing from week 1, so ... overall, a crazy episode (surprise cocktail party anyone!?) yet sort of anti-climactic.
Okay, my opinion after watching the show. Daniel did deserve to win, his outfit was the only one that looked finished. It was simple, but as they said in the Nicki Hilton challenge, you can't really go too dramatic on a red carpet dress. Santino's outfit was almost there. I do have to give him props, it was almost there. But quick question, where was this philosophy in fashion week? chloe i thought was an attempt that failed really bad. i don't know why she felt stabbed in the back, she told everyone she didn't want it. I mean wouldn't you choose her after she said, i am not sure if i want it. and kara just seemed to give up. but i have to say, i really like her, her personality, her maturity, and knowledge is great. she said she wouldn't play it safe any more, and she did what she said. she showed a great collection at fw collection. so sad we didn't get to see much of that during the show. wonder why?
this reunion show looks to be great, and tim's this is bs comment was GREAT. i want to here them tell it like it is.
I am just glad Chloe made it. I literally yelled 'NOOOOOO!' when Heidi addressed Kara first - right before she said "I'm sorry." I too was surprised at Kara and Daniel's response, especially considering their wholehearted smakdown of Santino and the Makeover fiasco during interviews.
I wasnt shocked ath their reaction - surprised though. After all they were put through - and seeing people they liked being cut - I can see them being annoyed she wasnt sure she wanted it. What their point was is the people that want it deserve it. I can see where they came from. I love Chloe but that would have pissed me off too.
Are the producers of PR reading this blog??? its like they know how much we know the order of things.. when Santino was addressed first I almost thought he won... of course before the commercial I guess Daniel because, they had the least negative things to say. Then, they changed it up again and called out Kara as being out, before telling Chloe she was in. kinda tricky..
at the same time.. I totally agree that, everyone's dress seemed a little blah. Its interesting to see that these comments lead to what we see at fashion week.
I think Daniel sticks to fine lines and simple.. while Chloe really tries to Wow us. and Kara really shows us her colors and personality.. And SAntino.. really listens and learns to tone down.. make elegant designs..
ps.. really sad that Kara and Daniel thought Chloe should go home.. I weeped with her... why does it have to be such a cut throat contest. didn't that Firn lady say be nice!! Everyone be nice to Chloe!!
you know, i think Santino's dress might have been better/perfect if he had just made a train-type deal of those pailletes instead of just sewing/gluing them on there as individual pieces. sorry was just thinking about it.
Trust me Chloe will be alright...Houston has much Love for her! I hope she wins this thing, because she is a good designer and she really is "nice"!! She doesn't play nice like Daniel V. does, what happened to loyalty?...Poor Iman she had to pick a dress, but she made it clear she was unimpressed with all of them and so was I.
I loved last night's episode. However...I think it was a little odd to first say "Okay, this dress is representative of your line." and then say "Oh, by the way, Iman's judging the runway and will wear the winning design." Isn't that a conflict of interest? So your design has to emulate your line AND be feasible for Iman to wear?? I didn't find that to be very fair. I think the Iman dress should have been last week - that way whomever had immunity would have been driven to kick butt and not be complacent.
I thought it was AWFUL that they asked the designers who should go home. It was a cheap ploy to make good tv and just resulted in hurt feelings. However...they all answered the question with such class and made sure that the person they fingered was complimented in some way.
But I actually really liked Santino's dress as well as Daniel's. Kara's wasn't as finished and it showed. And as much as I love Chloe and her style, what did she expect her fellow designers to say after her diatribe about not being sure she wanted it anymore????
I thought it interesting that the Season 1 designers pretty much told them that playing it safe was not a good move, yet it seems like they did that-well, except for the S-man. I was surprised that Santino picked Chloe to be out because he's always snarking about Kara and that whole thing disappointed me-although I am trying to think that they were choosing her because she had expressed her doubts.
I also was a little confused-the design was supposed to reflect their collection, yet it was also for Iman in a sense-("it would make a great cover"). Not sure that was fair?
Iman looked great in the dress.
Curious as to why Austin and not Wendy (or both) at the party? I can guess but...
Michael Kors loves Daniel
Kara did herself proud at fashion week-loved the dress she was wearing on the runway! Kara-why don't YOU come back next season, LOL!!
I think Santino may have saved himself at FW but it's hard to tell. I think it's between him and Daniel.
I think Santino is going to have a nervous breakdown.
I think they should do something on the show about Kara's collection--at least talk about it briefly on the reunion show or something. But they won't. Oh, well.
Listening to Tim's podcast helped me understand the backstory to last night's episode and leads me to think that Daniel's FW collection doesn't show a clear connection to his evening gown. In the podcast, Tim says that Daniel was tapping into a combination of Japanese and military themes (whatever). I just didn't see that in his dress last night, although I do see the military influence in his FW collection. However, Chloe's "1940s glam" theme from last night certainly DOES come through in her FW collection. Tim also comments on the Chloe conversation about not wanting to win and says that if the others were being honest, they would likely have said something similar to Chloe in the workroom. Let's face it, Daniel is ambitious and will sacrifice personal integrity to get ahead. He's accustomed to physical competitions in which psyching out the others is part of the task.
Last night episode was a real blah. Iman wearing the winning dress just didn't add up good to the whole challenge, should be done last week, and she ended up having to choose the best of the worse.
I can totally relate to Chloe's "not sure if I want it" statement, I have been in similar situation (not as designer though ;) so I know how she felt. If I were asked who doesn't deserve to be in Fashion week, my answer would be the designer that has the least understanding of fashion industry which will be Santino.
I actually love the Iman thing, although I had to think about it for a while. It wasn't that they had to please Iman. She wasn't a client. The actual reward was that whatever it was the designers made, Iman would /sell/ it for them. She was the reward, not the client.
I thought last night's episode might have been one of the best in either season. I was on the edge of my seat.
About the designs, I, too, was disappointed. So boring! Talk about JC Penney. Where was the color? At least I know that Nick got to show his gown at the SAG awards, and Andrae got to show his in the inspiration challenge.
One of the real ironies from this episode that I can't get out of my head is how Fern Mallis stresses to the designers how important it is to be nice, how you have to get over yourself and your attitude. Tim backs this up on his podcast.
And yet, in reality TV world, it doesn't quite work that way. And apparently not in fashion either. A unique voice, or point of view, or whatever you want to call it seems much more important than being nice. Santino certainly proved that throughout this season.
justin I agree that it looked like a fish! Very memaidish...if he'd used to fabric differently it might have translated better.
jrt, fine...you can have your brain back...lol I like Santino's so much because I've always been attracted to the ethereal goddess look. I really loved Kara's and Daniel's though too.
Now for the Chloe backlash. We have three designers not sleeping, barely eating and working their tooties off for this opportunity. I think Chloe was very flippant in saying "I'm not sure if I want this." There are 12 other designers who would be more then happy to trade with you.
I think that she was feeling the stress when she said it, and it wasn't something that she wholeheartedly meant, but I can see how the other three almost felt it was a slap in the face. I wasn't surprised by what they said on the runway after her comments.
I now officially like Santino better than Daniel. Not as a designer, necessarily (although Daniel has grown rather stale in my book), but on a personality level. When did he turn into a...uh, mean guy?
When she mentioned that being nice was essential to working a show like that, Daniel "glanced" (glared?) at Santino in a very not-nice way. I'm just not as taken with him as I used to be.
We were a little surprised that Kara lost...Heidi switched it around! She usually says the name of the person who's safe first, so for about three seconds we thought Chloe was out! Oh well...Kara had a pretty good run, in my opinion.
Oh, also, had Santino left those gold scales only on the skirt and left the ENTIRE top half of the dress alone - as in, nothing above the hips - it would have looked FANTASTIC. As it stands, I think it's the only one that would have looked good on that model...can't think of her name. Was I the only person who had never heard of her?
And asiangirl - we were about to say the same thing, but here's the deal: Heidi asked them that question specifically to see how they would respond. The question had to be answered. I don't think anybody meant it personally at all, and Chloe shouldn't have taken it that way. I mean, what, was everyone supposed to graciously say, "I should be the one who's out..." just to avoid some hurt feelings?
marion, i do have to disagree with you on this one. santino's dress tonight clearly does not match hif fw collectioin. and as has been stated over and over again, chloe's fw collection was an 80's turnback, so I am not sure how you can connect it to the 40's glamour days. i am not sure how Daniel's connects either though. i guess i don't see any connection at all to any of their fashion week shows. also, i love how people state that daniel doesn't have a clear objective. hello, that is his clear objective, he wants simple, clean, sophisticated, and that is what he has given almost every challenge this season and during fashion week.
hey aj, i like goddess too, but i didn't see so much goddess in Santino's collection, maybe it was just his color choice that threw me off on that, but now that you mention it i can see it. i just don't like the fact that we have been somewhat deceived by him, in my opinion. he spent all season overdoing everything, then all of a sudden he underdoes everything. i mean there is a correct way to use trim, right? and i feel like he might have just left that out. anyway, good show, too bad they were all almost done before they talked to last years designers.
I realized that Kara was the one eliminated from the moment Heidi announced the challenge of making a designer gown that would represent their line at this year's NY Fall Fashion shows. If you can recall last week's posting, Kara's line really didn't have too many outfits that were gown-like.
I'm shocked at how Daniel and Kara turned on Chloe during the judging. At this point, I can say that both of them realized that Chloe's their competition and they wanted her gone, because for weeks now, they've all said that "Santino can't cut. Santino can't sew. Santino doesn't know how to dress for women." He's a punk and I'm pissed off that the judges basically agreed with what they think Santino thinks about them..."that they're stupid, don't see his vision and he won't listen to them" and it got him into the Final 3. Santino played the "game" very well, because his dress last night made that model looked dumpy.
Also, Santino actually thought that he WON the challenge over Daniel!! Hilarious. Absolutely Hilarious.
I'm sorry, I disliked Santino's gown very much. I thought all the paillettes glued as they were made Heather look extremely wide through the hips (and you know Heather is hardly wide!). I'm also not fond of his excessive use of spray adhesive in his fashion.
That said, I thought his collection was lovely at Fashion Week and I'm amazed he was able to show restraint with the glue.
okay, i just have to state my piece again about chloe and the 'turncoat' situation. someone else stated that Daniel gave a significant reason that Chloe was already established and has had her life in fashion already. And on top of that, during the show, Chloe stated that she wasn't sure if she wanted it. Come on people, 12 designers who would have given their right arm left before her, and she decides to say that. i fully understand her being frustrated, i feel all the designers have been kind of frustrated for the last three or so episodes, but there are better ways to go about that situation. it wasn't a turncoat situation, if you say you don't want to be here, then i will say i don't want you to be here.
I personally think Daniel is the winner. Not only because I have loved him all along, but didn't you pick up on a "celebrity media made-over Daniel" vibe when they showed him 5 months later fitting Iman??? He looked so different!!
I thought Santino's gown started off great-I loved it till about halfway through. Then he started the adding and that did it! And I also think Daniels would have been much better in a different fabric or color-it was hard to tell if there was any detail.
I understand now (after Tim's Take) that the challenge was all about their collection and that Iman was going to wear the winner-that they were not supposed to design for her, so that makes it a little different IMO. I think that Chloe was tired, too, and they were all stressed so who knows where everyone was coming from at that point. I agree so much, TBone-I am hoping to hear some explanation of how Santino made it to FW because he's made every mistake someone else has been auffed for, he seems to be not nice-wouldn't even help Kara move her form? Come on, buddy, she didn't rat you out and say your garment totally fell apart last week. I doubt we'll ever know, though....
I feel like everyone picking Chloe to leave was a combination of 2 things: first, her comment that she doesn't think she wants it anymore, and second, I think that Daniel and Kara felt like if Santino made it to FW, he would be easier to beat than Chloe.
jrt, I agree with what you said about Daniel. Chic simplicity with well-thought detailing will always be in style. I find him reminiscent of Calvin Klein. Plus, he's so young! There's so much room to grow and try new things.
I'm having mixed feelings about Santino being at FW. Should he have been aufed a long time ago? Probably. Was his FW Collection good? Yes. Did it not look like his usual work? Overall it looked like it wasn't made by the Santino we know.
That all leaves me confused as a whole. His collection was beautiful (albeit a bit trend-dated) but did he really deserve to be in the top three or even win at this point?
That being said, I would LOVE to see Daniel win. I think he's shown the most consistency and has been one of my faves since the Hilton Challenge.
First of all, I think the main prize of PR is getting a runway show at Fashion Week so I think all four designers are winners!
Howerver, I thought the dresses were all terrible last night! I almost liked Santino's and actually thought Iman would choose it (it would have been a beautiful color on her) but it really just wasn't flattering and it would have looked like a costume on the red carpet (and I agree that it made the model's hips look huge). Daniel's dress was just BORING but I guess it at least looked OK so it deserved to win. I was so dissapointed with Chloe; that dress was just awful. But at least it looked a little bit like her style, unlike Kara's. I thought both Kara's and Chloe's dresses were boring and ill-fitting so I wasn't sure who would go. But since Kara's didn't represent her style it makes sense that she was out.
The producers are getting better at tricking us. Early in the episode I thought, "well, they're making a big deal about Kara not knowing anything about evening wear so obviously she's NOT out." Oh, well.
I liked the challenge. They've already had a challenge where they design for a specific client so I liked the idea that in this one they design before knowing who the client is. But I'm starting to feel sorry for these celebrities who are obligated to choose from a bunch of crappy garments. OK, so she wore it to the least important red carpet event she could find, but still...
AJ, I couldn't have said it better. When I saw Santino's FW collection, I thought "It can't have been made by him! I actually like it." I think several of the other designers who were out would have had interesting collections(cough *Andrae* cough). I found it interesting in Tim's Q&A that he says there is a difference in what you see on TV vs. what's in person and so I'm thinking that some of the fine detail of Daniels work might not be as easy to see on the computer or TV. Interesting that MK used the same word-underwhelmed-in both finales. Can't wait for the reunion show!!
I didn't care for this challenge. I've been discussing this on my livejournal, and I really think that the designers should have had more time. I realize that a time crunch and stress make for good TV, and sometimes really inspired design, but for a design that a collection could be built around, I think more than an hour or so of planning should have been given to that process. Always creating things on the spur of the moment creates a sameness and lack of depth.
Personally, I would have loved to see the designers make two trips to Mood, one to check out the fabrics, time in between to reflect on what they'd seen, and then a second visit to make the purchase.
Oh, and I wasn't as upset about everyone picking Chloe to be off as I was about asking the designers that question in the first place. I don't know what the point was, other than to hurt people's feelings. The reason I watch PR is because it is NOT The Apprentice.
hello all. i've been reading this blog ever since I clicked on the link from the super fantastic Manlolo's blog. it's a great blog for fans of this great show. this is my first time posting so here goes.
i was very disappointed and mad at kara and daniel last night, even more disappointed and mad than when daniel franco and nick were booted off. why? because i expected more from kara and daniel. for them to have outed chloe like that was unbelievable and showed their character to me. i know chloe expressed that she didn't know if she wanted to go on to fashion week, but she was just being honest. like she said, she's been there and experienced first hand what it is like, the craziness, the lack of quality of life/balance, and she wasn't sure at that point if she wants to go through it again, given she had made that choice before. she knew, unlike the others, it's not just all out glamour and hanging out with celebrities and super models from here on out.
for the both of them to have been buddy buddy with chloe, especially with daniel saying that he hopes it's just him and the girls, and then both turning on her like that, and then after the runway go up and hug her and congratulate her, i was really grossed out. chloe said on her bio on the runway website, that one of her negative attributes is that she never easily forgives and forgets, and i hope she applies that to this situation. part of the reason i liked daniel was not just because of his clothes (although i have to say rebecca should be given a lot of credit for how amazing daniel's clothes look on her) but because of how he's been portrayed on the show (being nice does get you far), but not more. and kara, my opinion is that nick is out because of her. if she would've expressed how uncomfortable and how much she disliked her outfit last week, which she did off runway, i have to believe that the failed makeover would've weighted more heavily on the judge's minds. and so for her to then turn on chloe....ugh.
asking that question was sleazy, and if i had been up there i would have refused to answer the question. what sleaze. i'm really starting to hate this show.
My lengthy earlier content got eaten, so I'll just ask whether I'm the only one who thought that when Heidi Klum came out to greet the designers before the runway judging, she looked a little bit like Deborah Harry (20 years ago, of course). I mentioned it to my daughter, but, of course, she just said, "Who's Debbie Harry?"
pc, i understand your point of view, but i think you are taking a little too hard.
let me ask the people who say they shouldn't have chosen Chloe, who should they have chose?
Santino- who was standing with a pretty nice dress on the runway?
Kara- who was obviously out with that dress?
Daniel- who had the best runway outfit and best overall results?
Well, as Eric said, what was the purpose of asking that question? I mean it obviously didn't effect the outcome did it. Nor would their answers ever have swayed the judges. This is twice Heidi has asked this question, and I don't think, on a runway of realitive nobodies, they should have to say who should go home. And think of it this way, Chloe may have felt stabbed in the back, but it sure lit a fire under her. You could see her mood change to one of like, 'heck yeah i want this thing.'
praddicted, are we watching the same show? You take issue with Santino because he wouldn't help her move her dummy? Hasn't Kara been whining all season long for help in EVERYTHING? She was saved in the Makeover edition because Santino told her what to make, chose the fabric, changed her design, and then, after he has no time left to do his own outfit, she leaves him hanging during the judging and gets mad at him for not coming to her rescue yet again. She should have been hatched for her New York "NO TRESPASSING" fiasco and the fact that they kept her after getting rid of Andrae, Nick and the diabolical Zulema is outrageous. I was, on another point, disappointed by Santino's dress.
I was really disappointed to see kara go, especially since I know what a fantastic line she created for fashion week and that now it will never even be acknowledged on the show. Looking back, her designs have been consistently beautiful and her clothes are the type that I would be most likely to wear. I hope she gets due credit for her excellent fashion week line.
I was also a little surprised that the other designers called out chloe but she really brought it on herself by saying she wasn't sure she wanted it. If you're not sure, you have no business being there when so many designers would kill to be at fashion week! I think her lack of passion really showed in her line, and its a shame that she got the spot.
loog, I agree; what would have happened if they had just said, "I don't want to answer that question"? Nothing. For the most part I think the contestants should do what is asked of them but in this case I think the polite thing to do would have been to refuse. I know, as Santino has pointed out, it is not a popularity contest, but that doesn't mean you should be rude for no reason. Having said that, I also agree with jrt that Chloe needed that kick in the pants.
While I do think as designers, they should be able to work under tight time constraints, given the nature of this challenge, I think it suffered tremendously by the 1 hour to sketch, 2 days, interupted at best, to sew. As a final challenge, I think it came up quite short. The dresses were not spectacular, as a final challenge item should be.
Instead of a party, maybe they should have given them a day off to sleep and think of what they really wanted to present. Heck, they gave them a week on muslin to show themselves.
Definitely one of my least favorite episodes this season.
i did take the episode very hard, but am i not among people who take the show very seriously and very hard?
to answer your question, i would've named kara. as you said, she was obviously out with the dress she made, and with the exception of her flower dress and less so, her santino outfit, she has been the weakest one out of the 4 (and even weaker than nick and andrae overall). she may have wanted the showing at fashion week more than chloe (note, i think she only said, i don't know if i want it, not i don't want it, but i will have to watch the show again to verify), but does that mean she should go or deserve to go? desire and true talent, which one should win out?
I agree with some of the other posts that an hour to design a dress that is going to represent your entire collection that you are going to have months to work on seems strange. I'm assuming, though, that the designers have been thinking about their collections since before they were even chosen to be on the show. I would be interested to know how much thought they had already put into the collections before this episode. They all really appeared to be starting with nothing, which is surprising.
Kara’s architectural training may have hindered her on this and other challenges. My entire first year we were only allowed to work in black and white, adding gray second semester. The idea was to think of shape, or as Kara always talks about “silhouette”, first, then add materials and color later.
This episode would have benefited by having a second round and not restricting the outfit to evening gown. I would have loved to see the first round be in muslin with each designer explaining the concept of their line to the three main judges and perhaps the Project Runway 1 designers. After the critiques (we call them juries in architecture), they all go out and party. The next day after a bit of redesign work, they go to Mood to buy their final fabrics and the competition continues.
If they did not ask the question of who the designers would choose to be out, the only thing being discussed today would be Santino, which I believe is the reason they did it. I listen to what Daniel V. said, and he said " The ONLY reason he would say Chloe is because she is an established designer and the others would benefit more from the exposure, and that is the only reason" was not a total "diss". The question should not have been asked, its not like the judges would use their imput anyway. I liked many of Santinos designs in the beginning, but the purpose of the challenges was to eliminate those who failed those challenges, and no matter what Santino did, they let him stay. It became a joke. He is talented, but he made numerous errors in numerous challenges, where others were given the boot. Whats the point in having a challenge if thats not what your being graded on? They should have just let him sit it out and given him a spot at the end, it would have been the same thing.
i'll be honest - i didn't even care to watch last night.
but, i think it's pretty obvious why they all chose chloe to be out, the same reason chloe chose santino... she's their biggest competition. chloe might not have been the biggest winner all season, but she is the one who has ALWAYS been the "she'll make it to fashion week" girl. santino we wondered about, daniel didn't shine til later... chloe was hot from day one.
As I mentioned, they had to pick SOMEONE. Why does everyone seem to think that this was a personal attack on Chloe? Did nobody else notice how hesitant everyone was to answer that way? It's not like they all of a sudden turned into hideous Mr. Hydes with big long fangs dripping with blood and said, "Kill Chloe!!! Kill her now!" It pained them all (even Santino, it seemed) to pick ANYBODY at all. Let her hold her grudges if she wants to, but don't try to do it for her. We don't know what really happened there.
Also, for the sake of drama, I don't think the producers would have allowed anyone to not answer. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if someone DID say, "I can't answer that."
And devotee - I think the real reason Santino didn't help Kara move her form is because he cannot touch an article of clothing without making a suggestion, adding something, or at least thinking more about it than his own garment. He probably just wanted to focus on himself this challenge, which I think he did really well.
boring, boring, boring. I'll take michael's comment about santino's a bit further and say it was a "belly-dancing cabaret las vegas" dress. tacky, but at least more interesting than the others. if he had made it simpler, i'm sure iman would've chose his, for the color alone. although cara's was bad at the bottom, chloe's was bad all around. i think they should've had a surprise and booted her too in addition to cara. daniel's was boring, but the fabric did look pretty down the runway, like he said it would, and it looked well done. if they had this competition before makeover one, nick would have won this for sure. this would have been his moment to shine.
I'm with loog and eric. The judges have all the ammo they need to auf someone, the other designers don't need to dirty their hands too. That's precisely why I thought Kara was classy classy classy not to rat out Santino during the Makeover challenge.
"Ok, time to make the best dress of your life, show us who you are, make it perfect. Oh, but you only have two days, and by the way, we're going to force you to leave for a few hours to mingle with last year's designers."
I honestly feel that the designers are worn out. They're tired...the've been doing this for weeks on end with no visible breaks. They should have been given the time to put more thought into it. I think it was asking just a little too much.
I've also had serious issues with the choices they made for guest judges. It seems almost every single one of them made an odd choice (with exception of Iman). I was especially upset an Anne Slowey's dissection of Emmett's skating outfit for Sasha Cohen. She had the nerve to say that she liked the top of Santino's turkey outfit but thought Emmett's was "vulgar" ?
Ugh...
Hopefully I'll be out of this funk by the time the finale airs.
It was interesting to read Tim Gunns Q and A this week. He mentions how the dresses/ outfits look different on TV and real life and unfortunatly the judging is done from what they see. So who knows...
Also, although guest judges add a bit of a wild card to the show.. I think its better than just the same judges each time.. besides.. if they are not in the fashion industry.. they might be future clients.. which I believe qualifies them to judge and give their opinion..
Really, with the heavy-handed editing in this show, who even knows how things really go.
I bet they really asked each contestant to give reasons for why they would want EACH of the other contestants to go home... and then they just edit it to show them only naming ONE other person -- for maximum drama.
Same thing with that episode where Kara was in the jumpsuit. When they cut to Kara and she was speechless... how do we know she really didn't say anything? It's all in the editing.
Anyway. I liked all of gowns except for Chloe's weird big bum gown. Santino's was strange but unique. I liked his Fashion Week collection the best, followed by Daniel's. The other two collections were OK.
(I also posted this in a different thread by mistake, so if you see it there, too, please don't get mad at me!)
I agree with asiangirl; I like the guest judges (Anne Slowey wasn't really a guest judge because she was just filling in for Nina). They are almost always directly associated with the challenge and add an outside opinion that brings in an element of unpredictability you find in the real world. Sure, some of them have bad taste but that's life.
It was a relatively satisfying show. I was not surprised by the outcome. I was sorry to see Dan, Chloe, and Kara play it so safe.
Asking the designers who should be auffed was a dirty trick. I wonder what would have happened if one of them had refused to answer. But I guess they were all so scared of getting cut that they were just being sheep.
Of course Santino would never have thought to refuse an opportunity to diss someone else.
I think the reason no one named Chloe as the person they would take with them to Fashion Week is that all of them see her as a most serious rival for the top prize. If I had to pick two to compete against for all the marbles, I'd as soon not have to go up against Chloe myself.

Now I gotta think about a snarky recap for my blog...lol
okay adrienne, we aren't sharing the same brain. i agree with your first paragraph, but i can't say i like santino's fw collection.
congrats to the final 3, should be a very difficult decision. they are all good in different manners. anyway, PR rocks!
And I thought Kara's collection at Fashion week was the best. I'm glad she got to show at Fashion Week...she really changed my mind about her.
i knew that chloe, daniel and santino would get into the top three, but i was really hoping that since daniel and chloe's dresses were a bit boring that santino was a shoo-in, but you know? i'm looking foward to the fashion week episodes and seeing santino's gorgeous collection on the runway and thus, a win. (i did say that santino - regardles of his demeanor - was going to win since day one. i still believe it.)
I thought the designs were a bit disappointing across the board tonight. Chloe, Kara, and DV just trying to sneak in and Santino being Santino.
The biggest surprise to me was DV and Kara fingering Chloe at the end. I'm still scratching my head on that one.
i was so disappointed in kara this week. after seeing her decoy collection, i can't believe she didn't make one of those kimono dresses. i have no idea where that black dress came from. it only secured santino's postion in the top 3. his was ridiculous and nina was more than gracious in saying it would make a great cover. (well, maybe from the waist up.)
however, i too thought santino was going to win this thing from week 1, so ...
overall, a crazy episode (surprise cocktail party anyone!?) yet sort of anti-climactic.
Is this Iman in Daniel's dress? The photo is from one of the posts down below on the blog.
You know, I didn't even realize until 10:15 that Project Runway was on.
I guess I totally don't care now that Nick is gone.
And SAntino.. really listens and learns to tone down.. make elegant designs..
ps.. really sad that Kara and Daniel
thought Chloe should go home..
I'm just going to say it:
Somebody never heard of Iman? That's surprising, bordering on shocking to me. Could be a geographic issue.
marion, i do have to disagree with you on this one. santino's dress tonight clearly does not match hif fw collectioin. and as has been stated over and over again, chloe's fw collection was an 80's turnback, so I am not sure how you can connect it to the 40's glamour days. i am not sure how Daniel's connects either though. i guess i don't see any connection at all to any of their fashion week shows. also, i love how people state that daniel doesn't have a clear objective. hello, that is his clear objective, he wants simple, clean, sophisticated, and that is what he has given almost every challenge this season and during fashion week.
hey aj, i like goddess too, but i didn't see so much goddess in Santino's collection, maybe it was just his color choice that threw me off on that, but now that you mention it i can see it. i just don't like the fact that we have been somewhat deceived by him, in my opinion. he spent all season overdoing everything, then all of a sudden he underdoes everything. i mean there is a correct way to use trim, right? and i feel like he might have just left that out. anyway, good show, too bad they were all almost done before they talked to last years designers.
I thought all the
paillettes glued as they were made Heather look extremely wide through the hips (and you know Heather is hardly wide!).
I think he's shown the most consistency and has been one of my faves since the Hilton Challenge.
okay aj, our brains are back together, ha ha. i agree wholeheartedly with you on your post. very well said.
The reason I watch PR is because it is NOT The Apprentice.
hello all. i've been reading this blog ever since I clicked on the link from the super fantastic Manlolo's blog. it's a great blog for fans of this great show. this is my first time posting so here goes.
i was very disappointed and mad at kara and daniel last night, even more disappointed and mad than when daniel franco and nick were booted off. why? because i expected more from kara and daniel. for them to have outed chloe like that was unbelievable and showed their character to me. i know chloe expressed that she didn't know if she wanted to go on to fashion week, but she was just being honest. like she said, she's been there and experienced first hand what it is like, the craziness, the lack of quality of life/balance, and she wasn't sure at that point if she wants to go through it again, given she had made that choice before. she knew, unlike the others, it's not just all out glamour and hanging out with celebrities and super models from here on out.
for the both of them to have been buddy buddy with chloe, especially with daniel saying that he hopes it's just him and the girls, and then both turning on her like that, and then after the runway go up and hug her and congratulate her, i was really grossed out. chloe said on her bio on the runway website, that one of her negative attributes is that she never easily forgives and forgets, and i hope she applies that to this situation. part of the reason i liked daniel was not just because of his clothes (although i have to say rebecca should be given a lot of credit for how amazing daniel's clothes look on her) but because of how he's been portrayed on the show (being nice does get you far), but not more. and kara, my opinion is that nick is out because of her. if she would've expressed how uncomfortable and how much she disliked her outfit last week, which she did off runway, i have to believe that the failed makeover would've weighted more heavily on the judge's minds. and so for her to then turn on chloe....ugh.
i agree with eric.
asking that question was sleazy, and if i had been up there i would have refused to answer the question. what sleaze. i'm really starting to hate this show.
i have a theory about why everyone, even daniel and kara, kind of ganged up on chloe.
it's feasible that since chloe is a very strong contestant and talented designer, and a favorite of the judges, she was a threat to contestants.
she would be strong competition for them all during fashion week, so they wanted to eliminate her, thus preserving thier own chance of winning.
Here's my take on last night's episode...
