HAH!!! Substitute insane feathers for gross leopard print, and you STILL have something that should never see the light of day, let alone a spotlight.
geez, the blue and leopard skin print and the massive amount of blue fabric on the backside. who in there right mind designed this, and who in their right mind chose this. the blue and leopard print kind of reminds me of Rob's BR Challenge last season too.
http://www.salon.com/ent/video_dog/realitytv/2006/02/17/santino/index.htmlHey Laura, there's a "Great Santino" video up at Salon's Video Dog: A bunch of Santino's antics; oddly, no Timpressions. You might have to click through an ad but thought you'd want to know..:)
There is a difference though. The couple in the picture is an ice dance team, and the girl isn't required to do any jumps like a single skater (Sasha Cohen) would. It would be extremely difficult to do a triple lutz in either of those outfits. Also, ice dance is notorious for having really, really bad costumes.
You know, as I was watching the marathon, I realized that Santino has really grown on me. He's misunderstood in a Howard Stern kind of way. I think he's really talented and after having seen some of the older episodes of PR2, he's not all that "bad." I really like how he stands up for his designs and what he believes in. I suspect he's a pretty cool, fun and even nice guy.
Ha! That is so funny, because I totally thought of Santino when I saw them skate. I actually liked the costume and the blue leopard. Ice Dancing costumes are far more wild than the traditional skating. They expose a lot more skin, have fabric shreds dangling, etc. Some of the colors this year (especially the Italian team) were ugh! yucky. Funky salmon and weird flowers. So funny how style is to each their own.
For anyone interested, Tim Gunn is critiquing the figure skating outfits. Video is here: http://www.nbcolympics.com/bravoatthegames/index.html
The Italians looked like a bowl of spumoni...or perhaps Carmen Miranda, on acid.
Thanks Fia, I'll post a link!
kidlyd - That's EXACTLY what I've been saying about Santino. He's not afraid to stand behind his designs. He doesn't mumble acceptance when the judges critique him but rather tries to explain what he was going for. For that, I really admire him.As for the ice dancing - DH and I were flipping back and forth with it last night - we kept calling out which designer could have done the costumes and most of them were totally Santino-ed!!!
cgg, I guess it's you and me in the santino fan club! but i have this feeling that danny v might take it all.
I was actually thinking as I was watching the ice dancing that anyone of the PR designs was better than those on the ice. Even taking the fact that yes, the ice dancing outfits are "different"-they were pretty bad. Flourescent pink? And the yellow pair where the poor woman was sort of bronzy to begin with and the guy looked straight out of Karate Kid on Ice? Yipes. Give me tooty anytime, LOL...P.S. There has been a special on Bravo called Sasha Cohen and Friends (I believe that's it, I haven't watched it too closely)-one skater (maybe even THE Shasha Cohen, to quote Nick) skates to a tune from Chicago wearing an outfit that eerily resembles Kara's.
Did anyone else watching the ice dancing notice the egregious use of FRINGE on the skirts? I counted: like 3 couples in a row had some form of fringe going on...The women looked a little like something you'd see at a car wash...so swishy! But cheers to Kara for her flapper outfit! She was ahead of her time as well! On another note: anyone want to comment on the pair that wore all white and the lady looked like she had pasties and tassels on?!?! Horr-EEE-blay.
Okay, all i will say about the 'white' Ukranian couple is that it looked like something from Battle Star Galactica or something. As you said, horrible.
Okay, just my opinion, but I liked the Russian pairs costume the most. It was a little 'typical' but the colors were great and it was just so well constructed. Others that I liked too were the Italian's Poli and Margaglio(it was very Santino, but it looked nicely made), the American's Belbin and Agosto even though the fabrics were kind of out there, and strangely the French pairs Delobel and Schoenfelder. However, didn't see it life, that was just from looking at photos off of gettyimages, so don't know how accurate those opinions are.
Im totally in love Santino the man. His humor his heart his everything is lovley.
