I LOVE that Daniel loves Queen! I'm going to see them in March. W/ Paul Rodgers instead of Freddie Mercury though.
*tear*
I only wish I could have seen Freddie Mercury perform live...that would have been the most amazing experience!
And Santino...who DOESN'T love French kissing and fries? Also interesting that Emmett's sister was a model:)
What fun facts...these aren't from the BR mag are they? If so, then I totally missed all of them!
I wish i had the nerve to follow Kara away from architecture in to fashion. I knew this answer because of the previous post of the Out magazine spreads, where she talked about Rem Koolhaas. Anyway, congrats Kara.
and tons of laughs at the jim and tammy faye baker album.
That was so cool-what interesting facts!!!
I love that song, too, it happens to pretty much be on our local station cycle in the a.m on my way to work, so it gets me awake!! How funny is that!!
jrt, you could always take it up as a hobby and then...who knows?
"Dead Poet's" inspired me to get a toggle jacket!
hey adrienne, i might take it up. i already draw some designs in my spare time. my family always made fun of me because i started drawing fashion when i was like 5, but it was always 'Dynasty' fashion. And over the years, I just lost it. The thing I need to try is making fashion, I have NO clue how to do that.
Laughing the Jim and Tammy Faye Baker album as well. Now I know where Andrae gets his inspiration from when he went on that big crying jag at the beginning. LOL
jrt, you could always take classes! There's a huge fabric store near me that offers classes, so check out what's available in your community, see how it goes. Then if it goes well, get your own machine and who knows...we may see you on the show one day;)
I already had a machine when I started designing and taught myself how to do certain things (ie: zippers, hems, etc...) It started REALLY raw and looking back (after some design school) at some garments I made my senior year of high school for a fashion show I see the flaws, but you gotta start somewhere!
E-mail me if you have any questions or need advice. LauraK is also a skilled teacher in sewing:) You've got nothing to lose by trying, ya know?
wow adrienne, you are so encouraging. you have me wanting to start now. i guess being from the south, i have really never seen the opportunity. i know people who sew, but usually they aren't designers by any means. anyway, i might look up a fabric store and try and find some classes, but i might have to give up my jewelry making that i just started about 6 months ago. can only do one thing at a time creatively (i can multitask, but not on creative things). anyway, thanks for all the encouragement.
No problem at all dear. I love being creative and there's no reason you can't have more then one hobby...even if it's only one at a time;) Fashion is a great release of creativity.
Which part of the south are you from? I have family down south. Also, the fabric store here is called G Street Fabrics and I believe it's a nationwide chain, so see if there isn't one near you:)
well adrienne, i was born in Tuscaloosa, AL. hows that for rural. and have lived in 4 other different cities throughout the south, memphis, savannah, birmingham, and waycross(GA) the most rural place ever. i am in atlanta now at school, and just got back from a year study abroad in paris. there is my background. i am sure i can find some fabric stores in atlanta and classes to, just have never really thought about it.
My daddy hails from Milledgeville (sp?), GA originally, and my parents (about to retire) are thinking of moving to, or near, Macon.
We're in DC now...
How fabulous that you studied abroad! There are two things I regret from college...there should probably be more...but whatever...
One is leaving Fashion Design for marketing when I should have either stayed in Fashion or moved into D&M. The other is not ever going abroad. My brother pushed me to do it and now we're both pushing my sister!
Did you love Paris? Did you study architecture there? How long were you there? So many questions!!
oh, i totally loved Paris. what i would do to get a job and move back there. it is a great city. there were so many 'american' things i missed though while i was there, so it is give and take. i was there for 10 months. another cool country i got to visit was Morocco, it was interesting seeing life in these countries. in some ways, they are better than the us. but then again, the us is better in many more ways too. i studied architecture at the ecole d'architecture paris la villette. it is around the outside of paris. it was the first modern architecture school in paris, and it broke away from the beaux arts school.
as for your sister going, i know money is an issue for a lot of people, language is an issue, time away is an issue, but let me say one thing, if you ever ever ever get a chance to study abroad, take it and run with it. it is possibly the most educational experience i have ever had (not necessarily architectural education, although it was amazing to see all the buildings we had studied), but cultural education was amazing. it cost a lot of money to go over there, but it was well worth ever penny of it. and the people were so amazing, and much different than what i thought. my biggest fear was money and language barrier, and they turned out to be the two easiest parts of the study abroad.
and i know where milledgeville is, i go through there often. and macon is where i stop for gas all the time, ha ha. anyway, small world i guess.
I want to travel abroad so badly! I'm looking for a new job right now and am hoping to get back into fashion somehow and be able to travel and just really experience more of what this world has to offer.
My sister wants to be a brewer, so we're like "Duh, go to Ireland!" Then I can visit her! Plus, she wouldn't have the language barrier issues, and I think that it would be really beneficial to her character. My brother and I tend to be more worldly by nature. She still has time though, and I'm gonna keep pushing her to do it.
I love visiting Georgia. I'm a city girl at heart, but being in an environment where everyone is so laid back has always made me happy:)
I didn't know that about Germany! Thank you, not I've got another option to give her...I feel like her friend in the army just got shipped over there too. I'll be calling her later...lol
God, I would LOVE to live in England for awhile...just to experience another country would be amazing
hey aj, if your sister doesn't want to brew in Ireland, another great and somewhat obvious choice is Germany. And actually there wouldn't be much of a language barrier there. Most everyone I met in German spoke very fluent English. It was kind of weird actually.
And I know exactly how you feel, if I can just somehow find a job overseas, I would be set.
